Overview

The STA Award in Teaching Swimming is the perfect step to begin your exciting career as a swimming teacher and with no previous experience required, you can get started right away.

The qualification:

  • Was created by STA’s aquatic experts, providing you with quality training
  • Is regulated by Ofqual
  • Is recognised internationally, allowing you to take your swimming teaching career around the world
  • Develops the vocational skills and technical knowledge of a qualified swimming teacher, allowing you to independently teach your very own class of 12 participants from non-swimmers up to improvers (children and adults).

Once you are qualified:

You will be able to gain employment as a swimming teacher, teaching non-swimmers to improver participants

You’ll be qualified to deliver up to the Goldfish stage of STA’s progressive International Learn to Swim Programme

Access free online support and resources which are helpful for new and experienced teachers

N

Your course resource manual will act as a guide throughout your swimming teaching journey—always there to refer back to should you ever need it

Receive advice and guidance from the STA team who will support you throughout your swimming teaching journey.

Do I need any experience?
This qualification is suitable for those who are new to swimming, you do not have to be a great swimmer or have teaching experience
Are there any pre-requisites?
Yes, there are two.

 

  1. Be a member of the STA – which you can do online for around £43 a year
  2. Be aged 16 years or older
What does the course cost?
The full course cost is £345. Plus you will need to consider the cost of STA membership if you are not already a member. This is around £43 a year and can be purchased online.

 

For anyone wishing to go on to work fr Swim4 once qualified, Safeguarding training, DBS and reference checks are completed, we will consider part funding the course for you, so you can save as much as £250 off the course fee! Please email Emma for more information.

What can I earn as a Swimming Teacher?
Swim4 teachers are paid from £12 upon completion of the STA Award qualification and generally swimming teachers are paid from £10 an hour depending on location and experience.

Our teachers with the Certificate level (next qualification) or Swim England (formerly ASA) Level 2, are paid from £15 an hour.
